- We have done our best to keep the production costs down, but still need to gather some funds to get it done. Where do we start? Crowd-funding sounds like a great concept. Let other people pay for your idea and then you develop your awesome product or record the album or shoot your film. In reality, crowd-funding is extremely competitive and to do it right, you will need a lot of preparation and time. Uploading a quick video and asking your friends and family to pledge some money won't take you far. The month or so you have to fund your project requires a lot of time and work. And it starts several weeks or even months before principal photography starts. Interestingly enough, the promo video on a crowd-funding campaign is usually the most important asset. So even before you have enough money to shoot your film, you somehow need to create a trailer to raise the funds to shoot it.
