Gaffer

- The gaffer is the person in charge of the lighting department on a film set. Technically, the gaffer is the head electrician and works under the direction of the DP to set up and manage the lights. The gaffer for The Assurance was Chris Taylor. This guy saved my life so many times. Because I was both director and DP, I would often need to speak with actors or other people, all the time. And Chris is a very successful DP himself, so when it was time to set up for a shot, if I was tied up doing something else, he would just start getting things ready in case I needed them. These shots are so much better because of him. Chris and his very talented team of helpers were one of the best things to happen to our production. They were so fast and on top of everything. The gaffer will often have a truck filled with lights and supplies for setting up or adjusting the properties of light, or will be responsible for renting one.
