- Alright Johnathan, now that we understand kind of the components of a boom set up, the shot gun that's very directional, when got the windscreen, the shock mound, the connector, and obviously the boom pole. I'm curious about proper technique about holding a boom because I always see these behind the scenes photos, and it looks like these guys have a very practiced technique to kind of minimize the stress on their body but also make sure that, you know, they're getting the mic positioned properly. How do you go about holding a boom into a scene? - Well, when I have the boom extended to where I need it, I like to keep it balanced. - Okay. - I'm going to be holding it over my head. - Okay. - I might have it balanced right here on one hand and this other hand is simply just guiding it. - Okay. - Moving it around. - Do you have to use, I mean obviously if you do that for a long time, do you ever have to use any support gear or on your person? - No support gear.
