Narrative vs. documentary

- A narrative movie is different from a documentary. In a documentary, we can take advantage of the complex reality of the real world. There are lots of details that make up the reality of the real world. On your set, there are many, many choices that will have to be made based on the script, and based on the director's interpretation of that script. So, everything that exists in that world will have to be brought there by someone: the production designer, the director, the cinematographer. Every detail that will exist in front of your camera will have to be created, will have to be brought there. It doesn't just happen, if it's going to feel authentic.
