Practicing on-set etiquette

- Filmmakers love to invent terminology and rules for on-set behavior. Some of it's kind of pointless, but some of it only seems pointless but it's actually really important. It's crucial to understand the rules of how to act on set. And while I can't possibly teach you all the rules of filmmaking etiquette in a tutorial, I'd like to share with you a few of the most commonly broken rules that I have seen by people new to a film set. The overarching theme here is to be aware that this is a professional working environment, and there are a lot of moving pieces. Everyone has their own sphere and influence and responsibility, and it's important that those boundaries are respected. For example, if you plug in a little heater to stay warm, you could blow a fuse, which might create a lot of time-consuming problems. Talk to the gaffer if you want to plug something in close to set.
