Principles of camera setup

- We're taking care of some technical details here in our camera set-up. There are two things that we're working on. One is, we're confirming that the color we think we have is the color that we actually have. This is our color reference. It's the X-Rite ColorChecker. I like that because the X-Rite ColorChecker is terrific when used with the Resolve Color Grading software that we're going to be using in post. The Resolve software knows what each one of these control patches should be. So that we're shooting it with a 3200 degree light, it's a tungsten light that I've placed a quarter CTB Gel in front of and I've dimmered it down so that it's exactly 3200 degrees Kelvin. And I've measured the exposure with the same light meter that I'm shooting the scene with so we calibrated the camera and the light meter. I've made sure that the exposure's correct, as well as color. When we run this through post, we'll then know that we've we've centered up the control. It's a terrific way to…
