- So we're here on a set, and it's the calm before things get active. This is a good time to talk about the personnel required for our shoot. On our shoot, we'll have a director, a first assistant director, a gaffer, a key grip, a camera assistant, an audio person, and two actors. And, of course the cinematographer. Now, on your shoot, the personnel requirements will depend on the budget, and it will depend on what kind of a shoot is it? Is it a period picture or a contemporary film? Is it an interior or an exterior? There's a wide array of possible crew configurations depending on what kind of a shoot you're doing. Some categories are mandatory, and some are optional. Regardless, you want to develop an expandable technique. In other words, through your entire career you want to be able to move to bigger shoots with a more complex sort of management requirements or a simpler shoot with smaller crews where you divvy up the responsibilities among the people that you have available to…
