- Rob, recording in camera is a great option but it's not always the best option. This is the A7R2 and while it now adds 4K recording, internally, it's putting on a SD card so it's gotta be more compressed. What do you have there? - Well I have a recorder. This is the Shogun from Atomos and this is an external recorder. There's a lot of different external recorder companies out there like the new sound devices slash I guess they're called now video devices but the point is an external recorder let's you do a whole bunch of things in one unit. Of course we can monitor. We can bring up things like wave forms and vector scopes and other ways of sort of metering and sort of checking out the video signal and then of course we can record, which is obvious, and to different formats and stuff. One of the nice things that I like about and a log workflow on set with an external recorder, is the ability to apply a lookup table for monitoring purposes.
