Revising the script

Revising the script

- It is very rare that the first draft of a script ends up being the final draft. You cannot be too attached to your writing. Take some time off to get some separation from your work and find someone you trust to review your script and try to carve it down. A typed script shouldn't require any explanations as your screen descriptions should portray exactly what the film will look like without being wordy. When writing a script for a short film, try to condense it as much as possible. Make every line of dialogue count and propel the story to what's its climax. The only way to really tell if your dialogue is reading true is to do a read-through with a group of actors. Dialogue can have a completely different feeling when spoken out loud, as opposed to read quietly. A good exercise is to spend some time out in a public space, like a coffee shop, and just transcribe the dialogue that you hear between people. Then go read it out loud later without the context of where the scene is taking…
