- [Richard] By attaching an extra microphone to your camera, you can really improve the sound. Now there is a lot of different options. Let's start with a real simple one which is gonna be a smart phone. A lot of folks don't realize that what you think of as the headphone port can actually be a microphone port too, right? - [Robbie] Absolutely. The really important part about this is that these headphone ports are a special type of headphone port. On most smartphones they are going to be known as a TRRS connection. That's two 'R's, a 'T' and an 'S'. And that is a special type of connection that's going to allow it to pair with microphones and other input devices. So when you're shopping for something like a microphone for your smartphone, you want to keep an eye out. - We're going to talk specifically about Lavalier microphones and some key features in just a second, but that port is quite useful.
