- We've seen a lot of changes in film and video lighting through the years, mainly because cameras have gotten more sensitive. It used to be a lot more common to have to bring out really powerful lights. Those lights would have ballasts. And they needed a lot of energy. Now those lights have become less common, but we still have situations where battery power isn't enough to power some of these big lights. - So new technology is great, and I love new technology. But the fact of the matter is, the sun hasn't gotten any dimmer. - Yeah. - And based on that, sometimes you gotta bring out the big guns. So when it comes to luminance efficacy, nothing beats an HMI. When used properly, HMI lights can overpower the sun. And essentially give you that nice key light that's gonna pop a subject out from the background, which is critical when you're shooting professional video. - And for that you need more power. Now in a great situation, we would plug in to wall power. We'd run stingers on set…
