- Makeup on set is a pretty big deal. We didn't need much on The Assurance because we wanted to be a dying, desolate world. So we didn't want people having much life in their face or looking modern in any way. Just wanted a little layer of dirt on the extras and Bitsy applied that during the same few seconds as she also had to dress them. But let's talk for a moment about more standard movie makeup. First of all actresses usually expect it. If you're putting on this production, they will expect you to pay someone to make them look as beautiful as possible. It's important to note though, makeup on a film set is not always just about beauty and vanity, it's about story. Nadie had a food allergy before shooting that would create patches of dry skin as seen in this shot here, right around her mouth. It was so small and subtle. I didn't think it would be noticeable on camera. But even if it were going to be, I'm not gonna give an 8-year-old girl a complex about the way she looks. So I just…
