What is DCI P3?
- Hey there, I'm Robbie Carman. - And I'm Rich Harrington. - And Rich, this week we're going to talk about one of those phrases that you hear a lot about and actually, just recently, Apple put it on the minds of a lot of people when they introduced the new iPhone 7 and they said, "Hey, this new iPhone 7, it's screen, "can do Kinemacolor, or P3." - Yeah, and not be confused with P2, which is a media type. - Right, that's true. - That's been around for a long time. They got to come up with new acronyms here. - Yup. - DCI-P3 is tied to the Digital Cinema Initiatives and this is another standards organization. They formed in early 2000 and basically, by about 2005 they'd come up with a standard. And this is really put together by a bunch of movie studios. - Well, that's the thing I was going to say. It's not really a standards body per se, like CMT or ITU, this was a whole bunch of movie studios that got together and said, "Hey look, "we need to make digital projection "and the digital…
