What is YouTube Live Streaming?

- Hi, my name's Rich Harrington. - And I'm Robbie Carman. - And this week we're gonna talk about a live streaming option that allows you to publish video in real-time to the world. Now it's built on a platform you probably already know. - Yeah, Google, big one. - YouTube. - It seems like everybody these days is getting into the live streaming game of course there's apps like Periscope and Facebook Live Streaming and Google, with YouTube of course didn't want to be left behind. In many ways they have pushed the boundaries on this and so yeah, this week we're gonna talk about live streaming on YouTube which is, after all, when I think about YouTube I think of YouTube as the video search engine. If you wanna learn how to do something or figure out something it's probably on YouTube somebody's probably created it there and that now extends into covering live events and live feeds of things that are going on around the world. - [Rich] And one of the things with YouTube Live to keep in mind is that essentially you're taking advantage of the best of both. - [Robbie] Yeah. - If you need to do a live event with a media seat there's no delay, you can create the content in real-time and share it, of course there's flobs and everything else. YouTube does have a basic editor or you can download the movie and edit it and republish it but there's no delay to going live, but if somebody couldn't be there when you started the program or they wanted to go back and watch something well it's immediately available afterwords as a YouTube video. - Yeah, a regular YouTube file that you view every day. - And on of the things that I think Google has done well is they have gotten pretty smart at detecting the bandwidth. So, Rob, if you were to login on your set top box versus your computer versus your mobile phone what might change about the video quality? - Yeah, I might have slightly better video quality on the higher bandwidth device you know so if I'm on a fast network watching on a set top box versus you know in a coffee shop somewhere with lots of interference with a million people online and no WiFi connection I will be served up lesser quality so it is a little dynamic like that which lets users from all technical capabilities and sort of diverse connections take advantage of your content. - So let's explore what it takes to get your YouTube account connected for live streaming.
