When Should I Transcode?

- Now, the opinion of when you should transcode is just that, an opinion, and there are many different ones out there. This is something that people argue about all the time. We're gonna offer our ideas, based upon what we've seen with some of our clients and real-world workflows. - Well, you bring up a really interesting point, Rich, because the idea of, even if you should transcode is a hotly debated topic. These days, with modern NLE's supporting native editing, that is, the ability to take different codecs and frame rates and frame sizes and throw them all in one timeline, is a major selling point, in terms of the performance of a non-linear editing system. And manufacturers will tell you, of those editing systems, that no, no, no, no, no, you don't need to transcode, we play nice with all native formats.
