Writing before interviews have occurred

- I'm going to talk about writing before your interview has occurred, and it's a little controversial, in the sense that my colleagues who work exclusively in the documentary world like to feel that everything is unscripted and real in front of the camera. And my colleagues in the branded content world feel like everything should be completely scripted before it gets shot. So, I like to fall somewhere in the middle, and what that means is, I recommend writing some kind of script before an interview takes place. What I mean by writing it, is drawing on the information you've already done in your background research. Hopefully you've had a chance to do a pre-interview with the person, and so you have a sense of their style, a sense of what the story might be that they're going to tell. If you haven't been able to interview them, or someone else hasn't, you might have to just rely on other background information that you've gleaned from reading their writings, or reading the internet…
