The fill light
- Okay Kevin, now that we've talked about the first light in a three point lighting setup, the key light, let's move on to the second light, and that is the fill light. What is the role of a fill light? - So if the key light is lighting our subject as the main light, then the fill light is balancing out the shadows side. Which is important because we don't always want harsh shadows on our talent's face, because sometimes it's too much. So the way to balance that out is by using a fill light. - Okay, so it's kind of the opposite role of the key light, where the key light is sort of providing the main illumination of the subject, the role of the fill light is to kind of balance out any shadows that were created-- - Correct. - By placing the key light. Okay. So in our setup here, we've already talked about the key light up here, and I have a fill light right here, so I'm gonna go ahead and turn this fill light on, so we can see kind of the before and after and the role that it's playing.…
