- In this movie we're going to look at the workflow of the production day. What it looks like as we move from shot to shot. First, the AD tells everyone what the next shot is. The Director and DP then confirm what the setup will be. A setup refers to the arrangement of lights, cameras, set, and so on for the shot. The DP then goes to work with the gapper, grips, and camera assistance to get the shoot ready to shoot. That process takes up by far the most time on a film set, so it's best to get them working as soon as possible. While those teams are doing their jobs, I would often meet with the actors to rehearse, and talk about the next scene. It's critical by this point, to have a clear idea of the blocking of the next shot, basically how the actors will move, where the camera will be positioned, and how the camera will move through the shot. I'll then usually rehearse with the actors on the actual set, and place marks so that they stay in exactly the same spot take after take. This…
