The role of exposition

- Now let's take a look at exposition. The role of exposition is pretty basic. You're introducing the characters, you're introducing the setting, you're introducing the informational topic, it's all background information, and basically whatever the viewer needs to know to be able to watch more of your video. Remember, audiences are sophisticated, they don't need to be told a lot of stuff, they don't need to be talked down to, so make sure your exposition isn't weighing down your whole story, because that's usually the anchor that pulls things down and drowns them, frankly. In this story about the arts organization, it just takes a few seconds from two sound bytes of individuals, validators, people who are authoritative on the subject of the organization because they're involved with it. And they are speaking at the same time as we're seeing lots of images. These images are described in this script as ways into the organization, as a way for you, the viewer, to understand very quickly…
