The role of setting

- Setting is another key part of your story infrastructure and to me setting is actually one of the characters in your production. So you might think about that as you decide on the setting for your script. Whether it's going to be in a rural setting or an urban setting. Whether it's going to be inside an office or outside in a field or some kind of combination of settings. Those are all setting the tone for the piece but also in some ways play a character type role because they inform the audience and decide whether they're going to be connected to this character in a particular way. So one of the things that we might do is because we know Ellen is in New Orleans. New Orleans is such an amazing place. It's so vibrant. There's all this street life. So we might want to decide that there's going to be some kind of montage of street life that's going to be part of establishing the setting for Ellen's interview.
