Introduction to bidirectional trimming to overlap dialogue

- Hi everyone, it's Ashley Kennedy, back with another installment of Video Post Tips Weekly, the Post-Production Tutorial Series from lynda.com. And this week's topic is Overlapping Dialogue, Performing Bidirectional Trims. Now, whenever you edit, and especially when you edit dialogue, you really need to pay close attention to the exact moment that you cut from one shot to another. And many times these moments will overlap. Fortunately it's fairly easy to split the trimming directions over an edit, to perform a bidirectional trim. Doing so will let you easily overlay simultaneous audio over an edit, which can be great for reaction shots, cutaways, and other types of trims. So this week, we're going to talk about strategies for overlapping dialogue in Premiere Pro, and Final Cut Pro X, and Avid Media Composer.
