- [Instructor] A CMDB, or Configuration Management Database, is a series of records that describes all the assets, services, and the relationships between them in your organization. Each of these assets are known as a configuration item, or CI, and configuration items interact with one another to deliver IT to the people who need it. Each type of CI has it's own table, and each table describes attributes related to that category of CI. A desktop CI class may contain table fields that describe its processor, hard drive, storage capacity, memory, and graphics card for instance. All CIs also inherit administrative fields such as cost center, price, warranty, and serial number. In ServiceNow there's tons of pre-populated CI classes that are built in and do not need to to be configured. This includes servers, load balancers, databases, and even networking equipment.
