File organization tips

- [Instructor] In this video, I'm just going to go over some basic file organization techniques. Now, these techniques are very important in production when designing a part, but also in this course, because I've organized this course down into chapters for you. So you kind of have like a cheat sheet through the whole thing. So let's go down to the timeline at the very bottom of the screen. Here, you'll see these three boxes, these are groups. So what I've gone ahead and done is grouped all of chapter two, chapter three, chapter four, chapter five, six, seven and eight, all into groups for you. Now, the first chapter is just this one sketch, everything is done inside of that. So there's no need for groups. But you can see if you click on this plus sign, these are all the actions that were done to create that chapter, and so on. Now, I just want to show you real quick how to create one of these groups. So why don't I go ahead and break the group and I'll make a new one. So If you click on this group, and then just hit the Delete key, they'll ask if you want to delete the group. And the first one is if you want to delete just the group and expand all the content, or if you want to delete the group and the content or just cancel. So let's pick the first one. Hit OK. Now, these are all of the actions that were taken inside of that chapter. If you simply click on the first one, hit Shift, click on the last one, and then right click and create group. You can then also right click on it and rename it, and we can name it chapter eight. There we go. The other thing I would like to just go over real quick is these are all components. And how do you create a component? You can simply create a component from any body and that's done by simply clicking on the body that you'd like, right clicking and create component from body. And this would create that component that we just had, which is highlighted over here. And that's it. Those are just a couple quick organization techniques that are used in this course. At the end of each chapter, I go ahead and create components out of all of our tubes that we make. And I also go ahead and group everything together for you. Thanks and I hope you enjoy this course.
