Generative Design: The evolution of computer aided design
- [Instructor] Generative design is the next phase in the evolution of computer-aided design, moving the computer from only being a tool for executing the designer's will to being a partner in the process, suggesting possible geometric solutions to the engineering problem. While you might know Fusion 360 is a CAD and CAM tool that has helped people bring their ideas into the world, it is also a platform for the generative design technology that is changing everything. In this course, we will review the workflow and tools of Fusion 360's generative design technology. We'll compare the generative design process to another simulation workflow that on the surface appears to be similar but is still limited by the user's imagination. We will walk step by step through the process of constructing a model for the generative design process. And after setting up the processes and desired options, we'll start the solution, using the computing power of cloud processing to get suggestions on the design. Once a group of solutions are offered, we will compare them and select one to be prepared for use as the design. Generative design is the first step in rethinking the role of the computer in the design and engineering process. I think you'll enjoy seeing the new doors that are open for you by using it.
