Limitations of CNC milling

- [Tutor] Let's talk about some of the limitations of a CNC routers so you can better prepare your digital model for real-world fabrication. There are three main limitations I want to discuss. The cutting volume of your CNC machine, the cutting length of your end mill and the volume of your stock. There are a handful of other limitations to consider but these are the big ones that you should think about. To start us off, let's talk about your mills cutting volume. If the bed dimensions of your CNC router are only two feet by two feet, you can only cut site models within those dimensions. Otherwise you'd have to cut your site model in multiple pieces and glue them together to make larger sites. You also have to consider how high your router can travel in the Z direction. One of my mills for instance, can only travel six inches in the Z direction. So you can't cut anything taller than that on this particular machine.…
