Orientation of fiber materials

- [Instructor] In this video, we're going to be talking about the orientation of fiber materials. Now we're not going to be talking about the materials themselves, but how these fibers are oriented within each layer, or each lamina, of our construction. First up is unidirectional. Now unidirectional, as in the name implies, all the fibers are going in a singular direction. Now this makes for a very tunable material. Because all the fiber's going in one direction, that all of the strength, so we can tune how the strength characteristics are within that layer very accurately. We can also make this panel very, very light because there's no weaving. It's the minimum thickness of the material possible. Because the material's not weaving up and down and we're getting these little pockets, it's the absolute thinnest that we can possibly get, which means we have less matrix inside each layer, or lamina, giving us the lightest…
