Using a starter shape

- [Instructor] If you want to keep the generative design in a geometric envelope, similar to a shape optimization study, you can use this starting shape. Even with this geometric restriction, you can still analyze multiple materials and multiple processes. Using a starting shape is simple. You set up your study using obstacles and preserve geometry just like you normally would. But you also have a piece of geometry that comes in contact with preserved geometry that has loads or restraints on it that the generative design will use as a guide. To add the starting shape, use the pull-down and select this geometry. You'll see it turns yellow to follow the color coding that's used throughout the model. You can then make any modifications you want to what manufacturing or criteria you have. In this case, I'll turn on die casting, focusing on a specific axis. I can generate a preview. And you'll see how it tries to keep the shape inside of that model or very close to it. When you're ready…
