G41, G42, and G40: Cutter compensation
- [Instructor] In this movie, we're going to be talking about cutter compensation. Now cutter compensation is activated using either the G41 or the G42 command. Cutter compensation allows us to offset a cutting path inside of the actual CNC machine. But in order to be able to use it in the CNC, we have to activate it using the correct G codes in our program. Now if you want to use G41, that's going to turn on cutter compensation to the left, and most of the time you're going to be using that for Klein cutting when you're going around and milling your part. If you're using G42, it's going to be cutter compensation to the right, and that's traditionally used for conventional style of cutting. Now once you have either the G41 or the G42 active, if you want a turn cutter compensation off, you need to use the G40 command which cancels either the G41 or the G42.
