Brush dynamics

- [Instructor] Now that we've seen the basics of brushes, it's time to explore Brush Dynamics in GIMP. These features add a whole new dimension, actually several dimensions to the effects that you can create with brushes. that you can create with brushes And you can find Brush Dynamics in the Tool options whenever you're working with a tool that uses brushes. Like the Paintbrush Tool. There's a pop up menu with a default set of choices for Brush Dynamics, and some of these will only create dynamic effects dynamic effects when you'reusing an input device like a pen tablet, which cangive GIMP more information Which can give GIMP more information than a mouse or a trackpad does. And these are things like Pressure and Tilt, which you'll find near the bottom of the list. Other Dynamics are based on things like velocity, which is just how fast or slow you move your cursor and direction. I can illustrate some of these Dynamics if I take my Roundness 100 Brush and increase its Size to 100.00, to 100, just so it's easier to see, just so it's easier to see. And then choose Fade Tapering Dynamics. And in the Fade Options, I'll increase the Fade length to 1000 pixels, and draw some long brush strokes. So you can see how the Size and Opacity changed along the brush stroke. I can also reverse the effect so the brush stroke fades out like I'm running out of ink or paper. By clicking Reverse and brushing. And I can create other effects by repeating the brush stroke with a Sawtooth wave pattern with a Sawtooth wave pattern or a Triangular wave or Truncate. I'll choose Sawtooth wave and brush on some repeating strokes. Here's another example, I'll turn on the Star Layer and take the Star Brush, and set its Size to 100.00 pixels and Spacing to 85.0 and choose Basic Simple Dynamics. And when you use a mouse like I am right now all Basic Simple will do is vary the angle of the star randomly. Which I can see if I just move my cursor over the canvas. And if I drag, I draw a line of randomly rotated stars. If I pick a different set of Dynamics like Color From Gradient, and in Dynamic Options, I can pick a gradient like Full saturation spectrum either clockwise or counterclockwise, and I'll use this Fade length of a 1000 pixels and just paint a line of stars by dragging. And the color of the stars changed over the course of 1000 pixels using the gradient that I selected. If I wanted to not have a straight line, but instead sprinkle the stars around a bit, I can Apply Jitter and I'll use an Amount of 3.00, and drag to draw that same line, but now the stars are placed in a more random fashion. So as you can see with the options for adding Dynamics to your brushes in GIMP you can create all kinds you can create all kindsof creative effects. of creative effects.
