Create new documents
- [Instructor] In this movie, we'll take a look at the basics of creating new files in GIMP and saving work in GIMP's native file format. To create a new file, just go to the file menu and choose new. In the dialog, you can use the list of templates to choose from common file sizes for both print and screen uses. And we'll talk more about templates and how to create your own custom templates in a later movie. If you scroll down here, you may notice this choice, toilet paper. So, you know GIMP is a program with a sense of humor. If I choose one of these items, like US letter, the image size fields are filled in so I get 8 1/2 by 11 inches, in portrait orientation. And you can edit any of these values, so if I wanted a new document that was eight by 10 in landscape orientation, I can set that here. You can also pick different units of measurement. In the advanced options, you can set the image resolution and in the color space pop-up, you can choose to create an RGB file which contains…
