Dodge and Burn

- [Instructor] GIMP's dodge/burn tool allows you to lighten or darken parts of an image using a brush. Let's see how it works. In our exercise file, let's say we wanted to adjust the model's hair, making it lighter or darker. We can take the dodge/burn tool and make sure we're using the default settings and then choose a brush. I'll pick the hardness 25 brush, and set the size to something large like 250 pixels, and down at the bottom of the tool options, we have an exposure value that will determine how much lightening or darkening is applied with each stroke. Zero exposure gives us no change in the image, 100 makes a very noticeable effect. I'll set the exposure to 20 to build up the effect gradually. And this works in combination with the opacity value, so if you're working with a high exposure and not seeing much change, check the opacity. It might be set low. But in this case, we're at 100 percent. Also notice we can affect the shadows, mid-tones, or highlights. So to lighten the…
