- Now let's take a look at exporting GIMP images to another format for web use. PNG or Ping files, which are often used for graphics that contain areas of solid color like logos, icons, buttons and screenshots, which don't work as well in JPEG format. The PNG format also supports transparency, where JPEG does not. In our exercise file for this movie, we have a small graphic with solid colors, and it also has transparency here, that I want to preserve. So this is a perfect candidate to save as a PNG. To do that, I'll choose File, Export As, and in the dialogue box I can manually add the PNG extension up here, or choose PNG from the available file export formats. I'll move the dialogue box over to the left so I can see the image, and click Export. Unlike JPEGs, you can always use maximum compression with PNGs because it doesn't affect the image quality at all, so this slider can be all the way over to the right side, at nine. I'll accept the defaults and click to save my PNG image. So…
