Open documents in other file formats
- [Instructor] When it comes to image file types, so far we've only talked about GIMP's native file format, XCF files. But of course there are lots of other types of image files that you may need to open and work on in GIMP. Fortunately, the program can open many different file formats, including the most common ones used in print and web work. So, to open a file in GIMP chose File, Open, or press the standard keyboard shortcut Command + O or Control + O, or you can simply double-click in the main window area. Doing any of these things brings up GIMP's open image dialogue box, where you can navigate to the image you want. I'll start at my desktop and you can use the buttons at the top of the dialogue box to navigate, as well as the locations displayed on the left-hand side. If you have a specific folder that you need to go to on a regular basis, you can bookmark it in this dialogue box.
