Sharpen images
- [Instructor] One of best things that you can do to improve the quality of a photo is to make it appear in focus, sharp and crisp. So let's explore how to sharpen an image in GIMP. We'll work on a copy of the original layer to give ourselves more flexibility and to avoid unwanted permanent changes to the image. I'll make sure the sharpened layer is turned on and targeted and I'll press the number one key on my keyboard to zoom to 100% and make sure that Dot for Dot is turned on in the view menu. There are a few different sharpening methods available to you in GIMP. There's a Blur/Sharpen tool that allows you to use a brush to paint sharpness into a specific area of an image. But this can be tricky to use, it's easy to apply too much sharpening which just increases noise and not detail. And it can make an image look unnatural and retouched.
