Work with layer boundaries

- [Instructor] In the previous movie on creating layers, we saw that each layer in GIMP has it's own pixel dimensions, and this is important for two reasons. First, you can only create and edit content within the layer boundaries of the current layer. If for example, you try to paint outside those boundaries, nothing will happen. The second reason layer boundaries are important is that each layer adds to the size and complexity of your overall document. So it's a trade-off. For maximum flexibility, you want larger layers. For maximum efficiency, you want smaller layers. Fortunately, it's easy to see the size of the current layer and to change it. To make sure that layer boundaries are visible, go to the View menu and make sure that Show Layer Boundary is turned on. And with that selected, I can see this dashed outline. Notice in the Layers dialog, that I have the yellow layer selected. So the layer boundary for the yellow layer has the same dimensions as the document. Now, I'll select…
