- [Instructor] In this video, we'll discus design docs. Almost every game that's on the market had some form of design document. A design document's written by the game designer, or designers, and tells the team everything they need to know to make the game. So how does one write a game design document? There must be a dozen different ways, if not more. Most times, if you're working for a company, they'll have a format that they prefer. For this video, I'll work from one of my standard process templates. While there is no set way to write a design document, all design docs have one thing in common, they tell a programmer or an artist everything they need to know to create your game. One of the first steps toward creating a design document is to know precisely the game you're creating. That means you need to know your game's core, its statement of purpose, or the thing it's about, and its feature set. That is what you'll be documenting.
