Exercise: Taking a chance

- [Instructor] Chance plays a huge roll in video games. As a designer we can think of something as simple as the flip of a coin, but it's so much more than that. Chance gives our games variable outcomes when players can't predict what's going to happen next or can only partially predict it. In this video and for this exercise, we'll create a tile-based dungeon crawler where players move through the dungeon from beginning to hopefully a good end. This should be a pretty interesting exercise that also involves you learning about the power or randomness when we use different components of play as well. Along the way, our players will encounter good things and bad things. To start you'll need some paper or a collection of index cards. Mind you, you can make this game any size you want, but start small so that you have room to grow. You can cut the paper into squares or just go with the size of index cards if you prefer.
