- [Instructor] How long does it take? Well that's a question I sometimes see asked, though it's not often asked in those words. The game industry is one which appears to mint money and produce hit after hit. But that's only on the surface. And of course, we might think that way because the games that we love are absolutely hits and we want to make something like that too. The reality, however, is that making good games, obviously enough, takes time and practice. And along those lines, there are a few pointers I've learned along the way. First off, 10 years is overnight. Overnight successes aren't really overnight, they were actually years in the making. When I ask some of my most successful game designer friends how many years it was until their first hit, most were making games for 10 years or more before they had a seriously successful game.
