- [Walt] Many of our LinkedIn Learning courses have exercise files and we use GitHub to make them accessible to you. Rather than have each course instructor show you how to use GitHub, we've created this course to explain how we use GitHub and what commands you need to know to access the exercises. Hey there, I'm Walt Ritscher and I'm going to introduce you to GitHub. We start with an overview of how LinkedIn Learning uses GitHub. One important part of this philosophy is how we use branches to help you navigate through the course chapters. Next, I'll show you the essential commands to clone a repository and check out or switch branches. We'll look at the diff command and explore how to stash changes or roll back changes to edited files. We start the course with learning the essential commands in a terminal window. If you prefer working in a programming IDE or editor, then check out the other chapters in this course. We've picked a few examples of popular tools. Ray Villalobos shows how to work with the GitHub exercises in the Visual Studio Code editor. I'll show the same commands in Visual Studio. Then, David Gassner demonstrates to commands in IntelliJ IDEA and GitHub Desktop. Once you know how to access the course files, you are ready to watch our courses.
