- [Instructor] Once you've evaluated your course syllabus and milestones, you're ready to assess its online readiness. Now before we talk about this assessment, I just want to define two online teaching terms, synchronous and asynchronous learning. Synchronous means that it happens in real time. For example, you teach a lesson at the same time that your learners consume it, like a live video lecture, or your learners collaborate with one another in real time, like in a breakout room. Asynchronous means that it doesn't happen in real time. For example, you provide a pre-recorded video and your learners consume it later. Or you place an assignment in the virtual classroom along with the due date, and your learners completed in their own time.
