Increase learning with self-assessments
- [Instructor] Whether teaching face-to-face or online, it's important to provide opportunities for students to see if they're understanding the content. A great way to do this is to provide self-assessments, or as I like to call them, knowledge checks. These are low-stakes ways to have students see if they understand something, and to get feedback right away as to whether they're right or wrong. One example of this from the traditional classroom is when students design study flashcards. Or when they look up answers to math problems at the back of the book. It gives them the opportunity to work out the problem and then see if they got it correct. As you transition online, especially if you're using a learning management system, you'll find that providing these knowledge checks, or self-assessments, is easier than ever.
