A practical application for moving a unit online
- [Instructor] Let's dive in to a practical example of translating a unit of study from the traditional classroom to an online learning environment. Let's say I'm teaching a unit on narrative film editing, which is something I teach all the time. In the traditional classroom, I would lecture on the history, theory, and process of editing different types of narrative scenes. Within my lecture, I'd intersperse the screening of various film clips, and we'd have a really active class discussion. I'd then demonstrate various narrative film editing techniques and software. Next, I'd assign the homework, where I'd supply each student with a film script, along with a hard drive full of media and ask that everyone edit their own version of the same scene. Once the assignment was complete, we'd hold a class screening, which would be accompanied by a self-critique and peer critique. The unit would conclude with an exam or…
