- [Tutor] Each year as we start our trend report development, I always try to keep an eye peeled for the introduction of new elements in our bag of symbology. Don't fool yourself. It's only been over the last several years that curvy rainbows came to mean WiFi, or that three stack horizontal lines meant more info and not a club sandwich. We're at a period of time when the development of iconography and pictograms are outstripping our ability to mentally catalog them. As we designers strive for relevance in our identity design, we look at these new symbols a bit like fruit on a tree. In it's infancy, an icon is premature and won't resonate with the broad public. But if we're mindful, we can introduce it in our work when it's just becoming ripe. Also, be aware that much of the new symbology today is tied to our technology which is quick to change. That cloud that means storage today may be around for years or it might have a short expiration date when that technology is replaced and…
