- When monoline design first made its grand entry into the identity design field, it was not overnight. We first started seeing fragments of the movement in 2010 and reported it in 2011. By the following year, those original embers had been fanned by the design community into an all-consuming fire with more iterations responsible for their own trends than any other visual direction in the designer's kit of parts. The concept was simple. Instead of allowing the artist's mark to describe the field and the planes of a logo, allow the designer's line to define the edges of the object. But like many trends, a direction can reach saturation as a way of nudging a designer that it's time to move ahead. Oh, and those wafer-thin lines? They've been putting on the pounds.
