- When I have an image that has strong lines, almost always my first design attempt will be to get the lines of the images and the lines of the page going the same direction. I have three examples. Those of you who have seen my other courses have seen this picture before. It's a favorite of mine. I like it because its lines are so strong. She has a strong center line. She's symmetrical on both sides of that line. There are the physical lines of her lapels, lines of her face, the line formed by her eyes and her mouth, kind of her downward gaze. All the lines in this image are focused in the center and down at the bottom like this. So we want to take advantage of that when we place it in a space. We have a portrait oriented page. It has a strong vertical center line. Want the lines of the image and the lines of the page to be doing the same thing. And if we don't do that, we might wind up with a placement like this.
