How to know what an audience feels

(upbeat music) - How do you know how somebody feels? Whether it's lack of time or lack of resources as designers we'll often believe that the way that we feel is the way that our audience feels. But there really is a simple two step process to understanding how somebody feels. Number one, you could ask them. This may seem simple but going straight to the source is going to be the most accurate way to understand how someone feels. But know this, they're probably gonna struggle articulating exactly how they feel because words and emotions they come from two very different parts of our brains. Which makes the second step really important, checking their behavior. This is called ethnography in research terms. It's us understanding the behaviors of our audiences in conjunction with their emotions. If you really wanna know what somebody believes check their actions, it'll always tell you. So if you really wanna know how someone feels don't just assume you know, take the time to ask them…
