- Sometimes and perhaps often, you'll have photographs that lend themselves to more freeform style layout. An example of that are these beautiful philodendron leaves. When I placed them on the page, had a media conflict with the Leaf&Mortar name plate. That was pretty easy to resolve by rotating the philodendron 90 degrees to the right. I can do that with plants, can't really do that with people or buildings. Have a lot of open space, place the headline just across the page rather than contained in a small box. In this case, the headline is in Chiswick, as we saw earlier, text is in Miller text, and the page number is in Peristyle matching the logo as we saw before. But because it's just across the page and open like that, there's just a more open, freeform style to it. In this case we have room at the bottom for another story. We have a fairly big story in the issue about tiny gardens, so I chose to run four photographs in a single horizontal line across the page. Looked for a small…
