- Another approach to cover design is to use partial bleed images. I came across that in this case, when I put this full bleed image on the page and immediately had a conflict between the nameplate and the background. And realized there was no way to resolve it with color. The solution was to pull the picture off the nameplate like this, leaving a partial bleed. And it actually amplified the constructed quality of this, which I liked. So I also pulled it up from the bottom to make room for the headline and our second story, added a black box at the bottom. It was somewhat arbitrary, but it fit that space. And into that box, added our new headline and text and page number like so. This is a super solution and very low key again, because we're not going on a newsstand, we can have low key design to add a second story to this. I put the image aligned directly with that box below it in that open space, and the head and caption for that story off to the right like so. So we have a…
