Quick look: Nick's Cove

Quick look: Nick's Cove

- I came across this small magazine ad for Nick's Cove, a popular restaurant in northern California. I love little homemade spots like this. Obviously hand-lettered, every letter different. Overall, it forms a swell, words smaller at the ends, big in the middle. I like that the K makes it's own apostrophe. The S in fish are the focal point. The S wave obscures part of the fish, just like you'd see in real life. It's symmetrical. Someone really worked this out. What I like, is that it looks like what it is. It's authentic. If you have a small place like this or a product or an enterprise of any kind you don't have to look big and slick in design. And it may be better if you don't. Warm and personal and, in this case, nautical may lure more customers. And that's your design for today, see ya next time.
