- Pure text solutions from an identity standpoint have always suffered a bit of an inferiority complex to their sibling the graphic logo. Personally, I think a beautiful word mark is the epitome of clarity and functionality. But there seems to be this occasional urge or desire to be more aggressive as a graphic mark. So many times I've seen a strong typographic solution needlessly busting every move it can, to be more competitive. As a point of differentiation, we may find a graphic element integrated into the typography. Certainly a bold or simple nuance to a font or color ownership can be markers that turn so many letters into something more than just another word or name on a page. But that really is it. The need to acknowledge that this not just another piece of type on a page or a screen but it's the identifying moniker of an entity of substance. Often, the final option was to stick a box around the type and let that serve as a least offensive solution for separating your piece…
